ALLSTAR  NETWORK

146.970 (131.8 PL)

The LaPorte County Amateur Radio Club now has the ALLSTAR network on the 146.970 repeater.

AllStarLink is a network of Amateur Radio repeaters, remote base stations and hot spots accessible to each other via Voice over Internet Protocol. AllStarLink runs on a dedicated computer (including the Rasperry Pi) that you host at your home, radio site or computer center. It is based on the open source Asterisk PBX running our app_rpt application. App_rpt makes Asterisk a powerful system capable of controlling one or more radios. It provides linking of these radio "nodes" to other systems of similar construction anywhere in the world via VoIP.

AllStar Link's primary use is as a dedicated computer node wired to your repeater or radio. Connections from Echolink, other VoIP clients and telephone calls are supported if a node operator configures their node to support  the link.

Allstar is similar to EchoLink. Unlike Echolink that allows users install software on your PC or moble phone to connect to other computers or systems, Allstar runs on dedicated computers. In other words, if you wanted your own Allstar node, you would need a dedicated computer. Meny use Rasperry Pi's because of their size. A major advantage to ALLSTAR is the any analog radio can use a ALLSTAR repeater, and they can connect to other nodes using DTMF codes.

Just like Echolink, Allstar is restricted to licensed Amateur radio operators. You need to register first so that your call sign can be verified if you wish to have your own node or hotspot . Registration is easy. It may take a few minutes to 24hrs to be verified. Just click on link to register.

Soon we will publish how to access the network, so stay tuned. The Sysop's are still working the bugs out.
